Avoid Cavities Through Regular Dental Checkups

Cavities can lead to serious dental damage, and demand restorative dental care. In other words, cavities are not something to look forward to. If your preventive dental care does not include routinely attending dental checkups, you are missing out on important protection. Each visit with your dentist involves both an examination and a cleaning. These measures make it easier for you to stop tooth decay from forming. Some patients who attend checkups will still experience some cavity trouble in their lifetime. These visits mean earlier detection and treatment, which makes the overall experience with decay less unpleasant.

How Professional Preventive Care Helps You Avoid Cavities
One reason preventive visits help so much against cavities is the cleaning your teeth undergo. Your dentist is able to remove debris and plaque from areas that are especially hard to reach on your own. You also need to receive professional cleanings if you want to have tartar taken off of your teeth. Brushing and flossing can allow you to prevent tartar from forming, but it takes your dentist’s care to remove it.

Early Restorative Dental Treatment Helps You Avoid Oral Health Complications
When your dentist identifies a cavity forming on a tooth, they can make sure the infected area is removed, and your tooth has support from a tooth filling. When you stay away from the dentist’s office until you have a toothache, you could learn that the cause is a cavity that has infiltrated the interior of your tooth. If that takes place, treatment will have to involve a root canal, and the placing of a dental crown.

Schedule A Dental Checkup With DaVinci Dentistry
Regular dental checkups at DaVinci Dentistry will help you make sure your smile is routinely examined for problems. This review, along with the professional cleaning you receive, will help you lower your risk for problems like tooth decay. To make an appointment for yourself or for a family member, call our Southlake, TX dental office today, or feel free to request an appointment online. We look forward to serving you!

Healthy Gums Are Important to a Healthy Smile

When you think of your smile, do you immediately think of your teeth? Pearly whites are generally what people fixate on when trying to achieve a healthy, beautiful smile; yet, the gums are just as important and should not be overlooked. Sadly, many people ignore potential warning signs of gingivitis, the first stage of gum disease, allowing this condition to progress to the point of requiring more extensive restorative treatment. If you want to protect your whole smile, it’s important to give your gums the preventive care they need.

What Are the Warning Signs of Gum Disease?

There are actually several indicators that your gums could be at risk of gum disease, or even currently struggling with gingivitis. Bleeding gums are one common issue. Many people notice bleeding during flossing, and may even be tempted to blame the flossing itself; however, if the gums are bleeding, it is likely due to irritation caused by bacteria buildup.

Gums that are dark red or purple in color are also likely in need of dental treatment. That’s because healthy gum tissue should actually be light pink. If your gums appear inflamed or irritated, you could also need restorative treatment to improve the smile. Even chronic bad breath can be evidence of bacteria buildup.

How Can a Dentist Help Restore Your Smile?

When the gums are in need of restorative treatment, a dentist can generally help to restore the smile’s health either through a general dental cleaning or in many cases a deeper, periodontal cleaning. This involves breaking up plaque bacteria to clean the teeth and also to remove irritants of the gum tissue.

If you are in need of restorative treatment, it’s important to see the dentist as quickly as possible by calling our Southlake, TX dental office today at (817) 251-9333. We are proud to treat patients in Southlake, as well as Grapevine, Colleyville, North Richland Hills, Keller, and the HEB corridor.

Don’t Let Imperfections Keep You From Smiling

Close up of female mouth. Comparison after teeth whitening

Are you tired of feeling insecure because of your smile? Tired of limiting conversations with friends or coworkers because you worry they’ll notice the imperfections and inconsistencies in your teeth’s size and shape, gaps between them or even deep discoloration? Over time, many people begin to notice imperfections in their smile that can lead to insecurity. Fortunately, cosmetic dentistry makes it possible to address most flaws with wonderful, natural-looking results, so you can do more important things than worry about your smile. You can proudly show it off!

What Imperfections Are Causing Concern?

The first step in devising any treatment plan, cosmetic or otherwise, is to decide what are the exact causes of your concern. Knowing what you would like to achieve can help your dentist create a customized smile makeover. Your dentist will also discuss your budget, and how quickly you are hoping to achieve the results, in order to determine which treatments are right for you.

In some cases, for instance, treatment could be as simple as a take-home whitening treatment that can generally lighten teeth by several shades. In other cases, treatment might involve using composite resin to hide imperfections, or even porcelain veneers to improve uniformity of the smile by correcting inconsistencies in the teeth’s shape or size. For many patients, the best way to achieve their dream smiles is by combining some or several treatments, in order to properly hide imperfections.

A great smile can really help boost your confidence. Whatever your concerns, the staff at DaVinci Dentistry are dedicated to making sure you enjoy the healthiest and most beautiful smile possible. To set up an appointment for yourself or for a family member, call our Southlake, TX dental office today at (817) 251-9333. What to look for in a dentist

dentist in Southlake - icons for dental care

Whether you’re new to the area, or recently changed insurance carriers, when you’re looking for a new dentist, our Southlake DaVinci Dentistry team has some pointers on how to narrow your search. The ultimate goal is to find a caring, capable dentist who can care for your oral health needs, both emergency and routine.

It helps to consider:

  • Qualifications — You can learn more about the extent of your dentist’s training through your insurance carrier, local dental society and state licensing board. In Texas, the state board website lists all licensed dentists, including information like whether that individual has ever been subject to disciplinary action.
  • Cost — For starters, you’ll want to find out if the specific dentist you’re interested in takes your insurance. If so, other factors to consider are specialist referral capabilities and out-of-pocket costs for certain procedures. When costs are incurred, does the office offer patients the option to use credit cards and payment plans in addition to cash and checks?
  • Comfort and care — The first time you visit the office, think about the office environment. Do the staff and dentists make you feel at home? One of the most important members of any dental team is also you, the patient. You want to assess if you feel comfortable with the dentist or dentists there, and whether you feel you can take the time to ask important questions about your care.
  • Convenience — Location and office hours are important. Not only will it make it easier to be on time for your appointments, when dental emergencies come up, you’ll be able to get the care you need.

At DaVinci Dentistry in Southlake, we know that you have a choice when it comes to which dentist you’ll go to for your care. We look forward to meeting you and answering your questions: 817-251-9333.

Cool off with these foods that are also good for teeth

Southlake Dentist Advice on Tooth-Healthy FoodsAs a dentist and prosthodontist, we’re sure you’ve heard about foods to avoid to safeguard the health of your smile. Sodas, candies and chocolates probably enter your mind. But what about foods that give your oral health a bit of a boost while also helping you cool off in the heat of summer?

Here are some easy-to-find foods in the produce aisle that can give you something to smile about:

  • Carrots – That satisfactory crunch associated with eating raw carrots also carries a benefit. The chewing action actually helps stimulate saliva production in your mouth, reducing risk of cavities. These babies are also rich in Vitamin A and fiber.
  • Celery – High in Vitamin A and C, this veggie helps remove food particles and bacteria from the teeth, acting as a natural toothbrush.
  • Apples – Just because they’re sweet doesn’t mean they’re (necessarily) bad for your teeth. A special exception to the rule, apples are loaded with water and fiber, and just like carrots and celery, they help produce saliva, which rinses away food particles. Even gums are stimulated as a result of the fruit’s texture.
  • Leafy greens – Low in calories and high in calcium, you can have spinach or kale in a salad or even throw them into the blender for a savory twist on your summer smoothies.

Some other key ingredients include calcium and Vitamin D, which help strengthen teeth and bones. While milk is a source of this, many juices are now fortified with calcium, which means you can cool off while doing something good for your teeth. Do bear in mind, though, if the juice you’re sipping on contains a good deal of citric acid, you’ll want to swish with water after and wait at least 30 minutes before brushing. This is because the acid in these types of drinks temporarily softens enamel, and saliva, which helps to remineralize teeth, requires a bit of time to take effect.

At DaVinci Dentistry in Southlake, no question is too simple or too complicated for our dentist, Dr. Raed Ajlouni, and prosthodontist, Dr. Khal Ajlouni. So whether it’s in regard to learning more about refreshing summer foods that are also good for your teeth, or perhaps a complex matter, such as whether you may be a candidate for dental implants, we’re here to help.
